Ca ses Monges

Ca ses Monges

This place stands out for its rich history, unique architecture and its transformation into a community space, ideal for exploring the local culture.
Ca ses Monges is a building made up of three sections. The first, on the left, is the main building and has a ground floor, a main floor and several porches, which originally contained the nuns' bedrooms. The second section has practically the same structure and was the convent. Next to it is the old chapel, which opens to the outside with two floor-level windows. From 1866 to 1986, these buildings served the nuns of Charity as a school for dolls, a school for children and an infirmary. Over the years they underwent a series of modifications to adapt them to the new use and in 1918 they were extended with a playground for the children. Between 1922 and 1925, the old chapel was enlarged to make room for the growing community of nuns. In 1988, by decision of the bishopric, it was put up for sale and the Sant Llorenç des Cardassar Town Hall bought the building to be used as a municipal facility. At the back of the building there is still a playground and a nursery.
