La Unió Theatre

La Unió Theatre

This cultural space revitalises the community with theatre, film and music, offering an accessible and dynamic environment to enjoy local art.
The La Unió Municipal Theatre was inaugurated in 2007 after a historic demand by the people of Son Servera to recover the leisure and cultural void that had been occupied until the mid-20th century by the mythical La Unió Cinema.

Son Servera had been left without a space to generate culture and leisure, and to serve as a stage and rehearsal for the cultural dynamism that flourished in the town: Son Servera Choir, Local Music Band, Sa Revetla Folklore Group, Sa Murga theatre group, Noctàmbuls theatre group, Algarada cultural association and other artistic and musical manifestations of the town.

From here, the Teatro La Unió has more than filled the cultural void and has become the nerve centre of leisure and culture in Son Servera, with a stable annual programme of theatre, cinema and music, as well as being the meeting point for local events. In fact, the space is invigorated on a weekly basis with dance workshops, school and adult theatre, rehearsals of local companies and the local batucada BlocnBombo, the activities of the cultural association 'Algarada', etc.

The monthly programme mixes theatre, cinema and music, from January to June and from September to December, with an already loyal audience that attends the programmed activities. In addition, the Theatre has a Club La Unió, in which spectators become members of the Theatre and every time they attend a performance they accumulate points that they can later exchange for free tickets. It is a proposal that works very well and has allowed more than 400 members to become loyal. The ticket prices are also very popular, between 5 and 10 euros, in order to allow all residents of the municipality to attend without distinction.

The stellar cycle of the theatre is the 'Festival SonServeraClown' which takes place in May with proposals from all over Spain and internationally with clown, humour and circus shows, both for adults and children, and which is already a reference on the island's circuit.

As for the facilities, the theatre has a reception hall and box office on the ground floor, toilets for men, women and disabled people, two small storerooms for cleaning and material, and all the technical equipment necessary for the performances. On the basement floor there is a small rehearsal and performance room for small format proposals, with a capacity of about 50 people; a rehearsal room suitably soundproofed; two storerooms for material and technical equipment, two dressing rooms and a dressing room for people with disabilities. And on the first floor there is a room for theatre and dance rehearsals and the technical booth that connects to the stage.

In terms of human resources, the theatre is headed by the Councillor for Culture, a programme director, an assistant box office assistant, a cleaning service, a technical team for sound and lighting, and theatre and dance monitors.
